Valspar Epoxy primer...... opinions?

Hi all
First of let me say that I am new to painting. I have been reading the archives for days now trying to learn. I spent all day looking for local vendors for paint. What I have come with is I can travel to another city to a Napa or use Valspar that I can get local. I am leaning towards that unless I hear bad things from you folks.

Specifically I would like to hear what you think of Valspars LIC Brand LICP300 epoxy primer. Anyone hear of it? OK to use? I am going to try to learn on running gears, wheel weights, and a disk. Dont want to spend a ton but want to do it right. This is about $75/gal plus activator. What does the Napa epoxy primer run?

The top coat to go with it would be 327 series acrylic urethane enamel. Is this ok?

Thanks for any help

Brian

I've never used the Valspar epoxy primer. Every Valspar product I've ever used I was disappointed with the results so if the project was important I wouldn't chance Valspar primer.

Contrary to popular belief Valspar makes some of the best paint there is. Ever heard of House of Colors paint? You see it get used a lot on custom motorcycles and cars. House of Colors is part of Valspar. Unfortunately a lot of people think the only paint Valspar makes is what you could buy at TSC and it isn"t true. They even make powder coat that is used by some of the top companies in the world. As long as you aren't buying the low level stuff like what was sold at TSC you will have no problems out of Valspar.

I don't know why people don't like Valspar tractor and
implement paint.
I have painted a dozen tractors with it and it has held up to
weather, abrasion or whatever else I have put them through.
use the hardener with it and it will look nice.
I don't make jewelery mind you.
but I do make nice looking tractors.
Why buy paint that's beyond the skill level of the guy applying
it?
