i started painting my ar with polyurethane alklyd enamel. dont like the color. what paint can i cover this with. do i need to stay with the alklyd or can i go a step better? i know i will need to scuff etc. Or do i need to remove and start all over. have painted fenders and a few misc. parts.

You could go over it with an automotive urethane but I would let the alkyd fully cure first. Depending on the amount of coats it might take as much as a month to cure. Now this doesn't mean you would have the same quality of paint job as if you took it down to the metal and started with an epoxy primer. I would recommend PPG Concept.
