what is best method for painting bolts before putting tractor back together?

Stick the threads into a block of styrofoam, cardboard works too but styrofoam works better.

I use 3/8" thick x 1 1/2" wide strips of rubber, with bolt size holes drilled into it. The rubber will withstand sandblasting and secure the bolts for painting.

I have not come up with a good system for nuts.

Keep light coats or the wrench chips it right off if too heavy.If you can beadblast them first the paint will have more to bite to.
