Im close to completing my 45 JD-H, my first tractor restoration. The face of the hubs are rusty, they will clean up just fine. My question is this, does the face of the hub get paint where the wheel bolts on or should it remain unpainted, a machine finish? I can see some old residual paint there, leads me to believe I need to paint it. But on the other hand it seams like as a painted surface it would be crushed and crumble away in time. Maybe im over thinking this. Any thoughts?

they should be painted. The tires would have been mounted on the rims and then bolted to the painted tractor as one of the last steps of production, and they sure wouldn't have bothered to mask the face surface.
