How have some of you tackled straightening the
grill work on the styled John Deere letter series?
I know that I"m going to h ave to replace the mesh.
I asked my old shop teacher if he would be willing
and he passed on it giving me a few hand dollies to
try. any tips

I straightened the grill on a john deere G, by cutting a strip of wood that just fit inside the bars on the inside. Then gently tapped on it until it moved out. It wasn't quite perfect but you had to look really close to see that it wasn't. If you look at a copy of green magazine, I think someone is now selling a tool for straightening those grills.hope this helps.

Like Old said below, there are tools especially made for them bars but not cheap. Also, without a pic it's hard to tell if they are repairable at all. You wouldn't think that a 40 yr body/paint man would actually "replace" a set of them grills but I'm here to tell you it happened to me on my "B". They were completely trashed. No I wouldn't get the new aftermarket ones. There are plenty of good used ones out there pretty reasonable. I bought a very nice set (they will all need at least a little work to be perfect)from Ted Klee (MI JD guy)for $175. Post a pic, you might just be wasting your time.

These tools work very well for Styled Deere Grills. I own a set and have had good luck straightening some pretty messed up grills.

I have straightened some pretty nasty looking grills on A's and G's by using Sunsdahls reforming tool set. They have very good top quality tools and they are good people to work with. 507-334-8966 or www.sunsdahltooling.com

If it's got some real bad sections - and you've got a mig welder - it can be easier to buy another junk grill with some good sections.

Cut the bad sections out - weld in the good ones and grind it all smooth.

Junk grills are a dime a dozen on ebay. All you need is one or two good sections.
