Have a question that can't find in the archives. Going to repaint a 1456 International that I am doing mechanical work to. As I have engine parts off I am using CIH primer on them before reassembly. Can I use a good acrylic enamel paint over this primer later? Also, if I paint some hard to reach areas now with CIH 2150 rattle cans (alkyd enamel I believe) can I use the acrylic enamel top coat over it? Thanks

I go on several custom paint forums and a few pistriping forums. . When these questions come up the answer will be " do a sprayout on a test panel before shooting the vehicle.". This makes sense as if it does not work you have only ruined a 12x18 sign blank.

Thanks and I will do that. I need to learn more about 2k epoxy primer as that may be what I should use on the rest. Most of the old paint will be removed on the tractor. Next question is can I use epoxy primer over the area I have the CIH primer on?

im gonna give you some advice as a professional and body shop owner. what ever paint you are going to put on it, pull the msds sheets from the paint supplier and see what they recommend. stay in their paint line unless you know for SURE that different mfr materials are compatible. if you dont , disasters can happen, and you end up stripping everything off and starting all over. i would not shoot 2k over a modified alkyd primer.

Sticking to one company products is something I learned early on. Just eliminates so many variables right off. Stick to advice from a pro.
