im graduating? from a siphon feed spraygun to a gravity feed which is supposed to be better, im not a painter by trade and my painting is confined to tractors old trucks trailers ect, but even after reading and re-reading the instructions i cant get a spray pattern im happy with the droplets in the spray just look too big, if i lean the fluid it gets to where it skips in the pass, and if i reduce the air pressure [ im using around 9 to 10 psi on the last thing i painted its ok, but the coverage just looked too thick compared to the pattern that i got with the siphon feed old gun, any advice on this?

How are you measuring the pressure? The instructions that came with your gun should indicate a maximum pressure AT THE GUN INLET. The gun may also be stamped with such a pressure. Ten psi is an HVLP requirement but that pressure is measured AT THE AIR CAP. That is not the same thing as the inlet to the gun and is not measurable unless you have special equipment to measure it at the air cap. Find out what your instructions or gun indicate for a maximum pressure at the inlet, install a pressure gage at the gun inlet and set the pressure using this gage while the trigger is pulled and the gun air adjustment setting is wide open.

Note, a web check for the FX3000 indicates 29 psi for the setting at the inlet - use that on a gage installed right at the gun inlet and you should notice a big difference

thanks rod, ill try that i was using a air gauge i have mounted at the gun inlet ill increase and see how that does

Gun doesn't require a lot of adjustment. Normally open both adjustments all the way, As mentioned 10lbs at the tip. Lot of pressure drop in the line. Another issue is HVLP stands for High Volume, Low Pressure. Need a compressor capable of maintaining 11CFM if memory serves me correctly.
