Sata Jet vs Iwata paint gun?

Can you guys give me your opinion on witch gun you prefer?
I hear the Sata Jet is a great gun, but you have to move real fast, it really dumps it on.
I hear the Iwata you can move slower it doesn't dump it on, and the tip they have gives little to no over spray.
What have you guys heard, or your experience with either one?

Thanks!
Im trying to make a decision on what gun is the best for me...

sata and the anest iwata are both top of the line spray guns.the sata carries the heftier price tag. we use both here at the shop. i would guess whoever told you that had different size tips in the guns.

Glennster,
Witch one do you prefer? Do you like one better than the other for any reason? Witch one does the better job?

Thanks a lot for your response!

both shoot equally well. its basically just a personal preference, which ever one feels best in your hand. the iwata will leave you with a little extra beer money after you buy it!! figure 4-500 for a top iwata, and 5-700 for the sata.

They all have air and fluid adjustments so you can make it spray just about any way you want and for whatever product you are spraying. There's no such thing as too much , too fast etc. Most professional guns if used wide open have the potential to flood with all but the best painters. Usually because they know to turn it down first.

You might consider the Sata "touch up" gun. The only time I use the full size guns is for the chassis. Surprising how long the paint lasts in the small Sata gun. The full size Sata I have, when wide open, has too big a pattern for the old tractors I paint. I don't paint cars, that is where the bigger Sata would be useful. I know the pattern can be reduced, but I prefer the smaller one. Also, the high dollar guns lay down the paint better than the "cheaper" ones. Better than the Sharpe Platinum, if you call that one cheap.

It is kinda funny . Years ago when I started to paint my own stuff the question would have been Binks or Devilbliss. I was at a painting seminar sponsered by Iwata and and guy who won some painting awards was there and I asked him what do you use and he said Sata.Much to the dismay of the Iwata rep. The Iwata atomizes very well. I have only used other peoples guns as I have a JGA 520 . I need the lower canister because I like to shoot flake alot[ just not on any tractors.].As far as " dumps it on " these guns have little knobs you can adjust but you know that already.Since it cost more I'll say Sata.

Thanks Guys,
Yes Iam going to be painting tractors with it.
CKNS thats interesting about to big of a pattern for tractors, What is a great gun that you would suggest?

If your not an experienced painter, neither gun will matter. a more experienced painter will notice because he's familiar and comfortable with the paint...SATA 4000 is a great gun but pricey...Iwata LPH 400 or super nova is great also but tend to over atomise...do some research on the Devilbis Techna pro light....its my new favorite gun and its half the price of the SATA

I will just add that both of the brands of better guns [Sata and Iwata] are expensive. If you are painting once a year you don't need either one of them. I'm not saying go buy a Harbor-Freight gun for 9.99 . I'm saying get an Auto Body Tool Mart catalog and look at some of the less expensive guns made by reputable companies. I just bought a Binks model 15 at a garage sale for 10 bucks . This is known as a door jam gun or touch up gun. For 10 bucks it sprays very well on small panels.Auto Body Tool Mart has about two catalog pages of good guns.

Sata Jet digital HVLP works very well for me . The flow issue mentioned above is just the wrong tip size . Colors work best with a 1.3 and clear works best with a 1.5 . Watch epay as these come up regularly . Clueless on the Iwata - never used one and besides the SATA is plenty good . It actually saves material if you use it right .

Thanks guys,
I have been painting on the side for 15 years. All I do now are tractors, in spring, summer and fall. Which is only 3-5 tractors a year. (kleintractors.com).
I do have a good primer gun, and my paint gun this year is just getting wore out. So I wanted to get a one of the better ones I can get, to insure the best job possible, (I know skill plays a big part also)
I just heard Sata and Iwata are the top 2. wondering what you guys thought?
Thanks!

The higher priced HVLP guns lay the paint down smoother. But, for tractors, any major brand mid range priced gun. I use a Sharpe Platinum for larger areas such as the tractor chassis -- I don't think it is made any more, but they have similar ones.
