paint brand quest

Anyone know who makes paint for Agco? I'm going to paint a massey 444, my local supply sells Tisco that I have used before with ok results but I would like to have a better finish on this one, and was wondering if the dealer paint would be better, as I am not in the automotive type paint ( price or skill ) Thanks

who makes it may be less of an issue than what formulation it is.

many types are the older alkyd then you get some better synthetic alkyd, acrilic modifieds.. .. then uirethanes and epoxy's on the top end.

higher you go.. the more $ you get into.. and usually a bit more skill needed.. higher quality paint.. perhaps better / longer lasting finish.

on the flip side.. the older tech alkyds and such are usually easier to pick up.. more forgiving of reduced skills and equipment.. and some almost lay themselves out on the metal and are usually way more tolerant of primer formulation and window time between coats , primer to coat.

also have to look and compair stages. single stage vs base coat / celar coat.

then you have to look at use of activators, catylists and hardeners.. specific thinners and reducers, dewaxers. all add into complexity, cost and skill needed, and possible safety issues.

average guy that needs a work tractor painted can get buy with alkyd paint and compatible primer and be working. etc.

want a race car parade finish.. go top end..

I don't go to the paint store for tractor parts and I don't go to the tractor store for paint. As Sounder says go for the type not the brand.

AGCO probably sells acrylic modified alkyd enamel with some UV inhibitors. Should be better than most tractor store paints. As far as skill, urethane is easy to apply and in my opinion difficult to mess up--easier than tractor store stuff. The better paints come with specific instructions and do not need to be experimented with.

64 case 830 com hopefully painting soon if i can figure out what type and brand to use lol. ida is down by oh line isnt it ?
