Valspar Vs. Tallman's for Farmall

I"m cleaning up and tearing down the tractor now so I"m not ready to start painting but I"m trying to plan ahead. I"m doing a rattle can paint job on my Super A working tractor. I have heard good things about the valspar IH red that tractor supply used to carry. Has anyone used the Tallman"s paint? Which one would be better?

Thanks
Allen

I've read all the discussions on spraying paint with a gun and
Hardener but that's not an option for me. I don't have the
equipment to use Hardener and this is still a working tractor. I
don't want to spend $500 for a gallon that is only going to get
dirty and scratched no matter how careful I am. Even if I'm
using spray paint I still want to do the best job I can. I would
like some feedback on the tallman's and valspar paints.

Thanks
Allen

I would never consider painting a whole tractor with rattle cans. I have never heard of Tallmans, but get IH 2150 from a CaseIH dealer or order it from their website. It is made by Valspar and the best rattle can paint there is anywhere. Forget everything else. But as to rattle cans compared to spray paint, remember you get what you pay for.

You don't need hardener in your paint. Just takes longer to set up. Get some 2150 from the dealer and use a spray gun for a good working finish. You'll be much happier in the long run. Probably cheaper than buying rattle cans also..

Buy yourself a spray gun. You can use it applying primer and the final coat. Buy automotive paint. This Farmall A was painted in 1976. Hal

If you decide to do a rattle can paint job you wouldn"t be the first. A good job can be done when care is taken. The guy in the video did a fair job. Duplicolor rattle can painted a Chevy El Camino video for advertisement a while back. I think they have replaced it since the started pushing their paint shop products. I am pointing the ability not the products.

Thanks for the reply. If I dont need hardener what is the advantage of buying a spray gun and a gallon of paint over using the Case spray paint? Isn't it the same paint? The advantage would be in the spray gun evenly spraying the paint?

You may want to figure in the cost and number of cans of paint that you will need vs. spray gun and bulk paint. The first paint job that I did was on my Ford 960. The red parts only. I think I bought four cans, then went back for another two, then another four, then one more. It adds up when you start doing the backsides of all the things that you take off.

will be cheaper and yeild better results to buy a harbor freight 20$ spray gun and a gallon of paint and paint it that way vs rattle can.

if nothing else.. the paint won't be rice paper thin.
