on this subject i value everybodys opinion but whos right whos wrong, what paints are good/bad etc etc. i really want to paint this case but holy cow!!! i youtubed "how to paint a tractor" and word on the farm was majic paint.....and most of them looked really good. then on here it was about 5050 on the majic paint. so many other primers n paints.
the thing is ive got everything needed to apply the paint just with all opinions out there and painting being all new,i dont want to get done and go "that looks like shatner".

lol should we all vote?

Check your pocket book and proceed likewise.
If I took advise from people that had no idea of my finances or conditions I would never get anything painted. If all cautions of bad outcomes from painting came true I'd have been dead many years ago. Remember opinions are not always facts.

I have used 10 or more gallon of the Majic paint without problems from the paint. Fading is a problem if the item is stored outside. I have never had a problem with pealing, bad orange peel or runs as I have read about here.

My guess is that people that have had problems with Majic actually had a problem with reducer.

I use a very scientific method in reducing paint I spray. I watch it run off the stick and then put some in the gun when I like the way it looks and paint one side of a cardboard box. I then may or may not change the amount of reducer.

I'm no paint expert but it has appeared to me that the sentiment on Magic runs more like 90% negative. I will offer that it doesn't really matter what brand or type of paint you use, you just need to be sure that you match up your dollars with your expectations. The main thing is don't put expensive paint over a five hour prep job, and don't put cheap paint over a fifty hour prep job.

In the order of paints, worse to best is: alkyd enamel, acrylic modified alkyd enamel, acrylic enamel, urethane. Majic paint is alkyd enamel, if you get it on right it will fade in about a year unless kept inside. "You get what you pay for."

thank you guys for the info. im still not sure what way im going to go.
what i do know is,i want it to look nice but not "parade" as you guys call it.
it dosent have to be mirror like just freshend up. money isnt a huge issue but my pockets arent deep lol.im doing wheels too.

all that being said,on a scale of 1-10 i want to be about a solid 6. so whats a good user friendly paint/primer? and im assumming that ill be taking it down to bare metal? again ty for all the help and advice.

Did you read the response from CNKS? It looks like he nailed it down pretty good for you. He gave you four types, ranked them so it is pretty simple to pick your 6/10 from the four. Then you just read the label on it to see what primer to use.
