How much would it cost to paint a farmall c. I'd just like a general idea. A friend and I was going to do it ourselves. We're not going to take it apart. It doesn't have to be show quality paint job, I just want to stop the rust. Thanks in advance John.

Maybe I can give you an idea. I don't have real spray equipment, so I painted my Farmall "H" and best I can remember, I used 6 - 8 cans of red spray primer, and about 6 spray cans of Case-IH red. That works good, because you can buy a small case of 6 cans, and they'll all be from the same batch.

A gallon of red from TSC,$32. A quart of silver for the rims, about $10-12. Decals, not all that expensive.

You won't stop the rust unless you remove it. Paint, reducer, primer, surfacer would cost me about $500, but it lasts and doesn't fade. Stay away from TSC and other farm store paint. If you read the posts on this site you will find that TSC has the worst paint.

That type of paint job will accelerate the rust. It may make you feel better to do it and look at it, but under that pretty paint the rust will be in high gear because there is moisture trapped 24-7 instead of just for a few hours after it gets wet.

Cost of getting rid of rust is mainly labor. If you don't mind fade Rustoleum makes an IH tractor red in rattle cans. Good for a coupla years without much fade outside all of the time. I used some on my Farmall C. I have not bought any of it but I see on youtube that Rustoleum also makes an automotive grade of paint. They have a web site.

I bought a gallon of automotive polyurethane IH red a month ago, ran me about $250/gallon plus another $120 or so for hardener. This is the other extreme...
