so i want to paint it this spring. heres my thing,im not really restoring it per
say but basicly freshening it up (paint, tires, seals, gaskets and decals).
it will ocasionaly will be used for pulling hay wagons back and forth from
the feilds and maybe the fair etc. its life of hard labor is over.
what i would like to know is since i dont want to spend big dollars on all the
fancy rich people tools, can you guys give me kick in the right direction.....?

oh heres what im working with 1964 ji case 831c

that paint looks good enough that it would probably come back with a good cleaning with a cleaning type of polish.

Case has pretty good paint but the power red (70 series and newer)they sell isn't quite the same color as the Flambeau red used on your 830. If it's a farm tractor and don't worry about being tracked down by the "correct police" then it will be ok. I like Shopline urethane paint myself.

i hope youre not serious lol. most of the red isstil bright n shiney but the
smudge that is covering the motor has got to go and it is on there good.

so do i completely strip the paint? and what do i use?

All of that black is just crud, a mixture of fuel, dust, chaff, cow manure etc. all you need is some heavy duty cleaner, and some hot water under pressure, and that crud will run right off. You will find nice shiny paint underneath that has been protected from the sun for the last fifty years. Cheap oven cleaner is usually recommended for grease removal, but in this case I would recommend a dilimonene (orange peel) based cleaner because it is easier on the bright colors.

awsome ty. its not really faded, it has been in the same spot as in the pic
since about mid 90's. now its in my shop awaiting resurection.
