protecting cedar wood

This is a little off of redoing metal ,but what do you do or use to protect cedar wood from the elements. I just finished a cedar Purple Martin house and need to know?

Boiled linseed oil, not regular linseed oil- it will never dry. Hard to find something that will last, cedar has natural oils that do not like to be covered. Might try Thompson water seal, not much on UV, wood may still discolor.
