1954 Farmall Super A-1 paint decision

Been reading this site for a while, first post.

I have a 1954 Farmall Super A-1, serial #356111. I am in the process of "restoring" the tractor that I bought a few months ago.

I am having difficulty determining from the conflicting information that I have read, about the paint colors of particular parts on the tractor.

Primarily I am wondering if the cultivators front and back should be painted red or blue? What about the lift arms and springs? What about the mounting arm on the front left side of the tractor that mounts to the front axle?

It appears from grinding that the front mounting arm (correct name?) was originally blue, but it"s difficult to tell. It appears to have definitely been some other color than red, either blue or black.

Any help with this is greatly appreciated. I tried posting a few pictures the first time I typed this, but experienced some difficulty in doing so.

Pretty sure on those, the spring arms are Red, the Universal Mounting Frame with Toolbars are Blue, and the shanks/feet and clamps are black.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Sounds right to me -

but I will say this - when we did our super A and implements, we did a LOT of research.

What we found is that A.) nobody knows for SURE what was what color.

B.) even those that know for sure (people who bought this stuff new) often conflict - meaning IH changed colors often, even though you may not see it in the paint records.

I've seen the exact same sickle mowers painted at least three different ways. (original paint).

So my recommendation is to not worry about it - take an educated guess and go with it.

There's nobody out there that's going to be able to tell you you're wrong. If you find what looks like original paint, go with that.

Have also found that the original blue does fade to a sort of battle ship gray color.
