sandblasting equipment

I am thinking of purchasing some sandblasting equipment for the use of blasting down old tractor steel (not sheet metal) and am wondering what would be a good set up. I have also been given an opportunity to blast and prime older 500 gal. propane tanks and am thinking this would be an ideal way to help pay for something that I only need for a weekend hobby work. What"s my best bet for a good functioning setup?

Iv'e got a 7HP compressor and a typical blasting set-up Using expensive blasting media about $6 a bag is very time consuming and not real effective. Unless you buy extremly expensive commercial equipment, you are better off paying a comercil sandblaster to do the job.

My compressor cost about $1800 several years ago and puts out 24 CFM. It is SLOW and simply not practical for large items. It uses and wastes a lot of sand. It's cheaper to let a professional do it -- I mean the tanks, do not try to sandblast a intact tractor with any kind of sandblaster.

Google Texas Blaster. That is a reasonably priced, simple sand blaster. You will need to find a used portable compressor, 100 cfm or bigger. You might find something older and gas powered for $1-$1500. I don"t think you will be happy blasting with a shop compressor, sandblasting takes a huge amount of air.
