Body Filler And Sanding Before or After Assembly

I am working on a 1947 International KB1. I have all of the sheet metal parts disassembled to weld in patch panels, strip, etc. I am going to shoot each piece separate with epoxy primer. It seems like it would be easier to body fill, prime, sand and final paint the disassembled parts. What do you guys think? My main concern is risking scratching something during final assembly. The up side is if I get a run or orange peel I can easily just strip one part.

I am not a body or paint guy but I recently finished my first one and I am pretty happy with it. I did a lot of dissassembly of my 901 Ford and painted the red part of it with it more dissassembled than it was at the factory. I believe that a key part of body painting is lighting, but it is rarely mentioned here. It is hard to have panels properly illuminated when on the tractor. It is difficult to see how "wet" you paint is at any given moment or in any given spot unless you have light reflecting from it. It does take care to assemble after painting, but one important thing is to give it time to harden according to the paint instructions. I also use plastic or fiber washers under the screws that fasten the body parts to protect the paint.

I don't restore car, but my grandpa does. He primes and paints the jambs/inaccessible areas off the car then does the flat areas on the car.

i prefer to paint parts disassembled and off the tractor, hanging, and then assemble them.

for workers.. I sure have masked parts and painted on tractor.. but it's easier, and better, paint wise. to hang the tins and paint

I prefer to dissassemble, hammer out the tin as best I can and then prime with epoxy primer. Then apply the bondo and level the surface and prime again with epoxy primer and then a filler primer sanding between coats with an inline sander. It works well to alternate the colors of filler primer with each coat so you can find the high and low spots.
