It hasn't made any difference in PPG products as far as I can tell. I think the colors are a little different, but the dealer can change the toners to suit. PPG MTK acrylic urethane still lists lead in some colors. I imagine DuPont and NAPA are the same unless you mean really cheap paint.

Could be, I don't use cheap paint, even with lead in it doesn't last long. When alkyd enamel/acrylic lacquer were used on factory painted cars they faded badly in a couple of years. Could be retained with wax but it eventually gave up. Modern paint is immeasurably better, lead or not. I don't worry about lead or iso's because I use the proper protection. That said the acrylic modified alkyd enamel paints sold by tractor dealers aren't that bad. This post was edited by CNKS at 14:39:49 06/05/13.

unfortunately, lead is very toxic. it stays in the environment for a long time. sanding it generates an inhalation hazard, as well as the atomized paint when applying. when the vehicle is ultimately scrapped and melted down, the lead is released again. typical consumer use does generate quite a bit of toxic waste. the spray booth here at my shop runs 98% efficiency filters to trap voc emissions. we dispose of all waste products thru an epa licenced waste hauler. current cost is about 700 dollars for a 55 gallon drum. if you using the proper safety gear, it is a lot safer. how many home painters are wearing supplied air, paint suit, nitrile gloves ect and disposing of the generated waste correctly. the products are nasty.
