Case/IH 1896 tractor. Got a tree limb off of the loader and onto the hood. Took out a chunk about 2" wide by 6" long, right on the side edge of the hood. Fiberglass of course, 1985 vintage. What"s the best method and material for repairing this for paint, amateur style, ON the tractor?

If its a hole, you can patch it with fiberglass matte and resin to make the patch, then bond it in with corvette panel adhesive. Do the rough body work with a tiger hair type filler, its basically chopped fiberglass strands mixed with resin. Let it cure good, and put a heat lamp or spot light bulb on it for half an hour or so. Sand smooth, then finish with a bondo type body filler.

yup, they will have all the goods. your hood should be fiberglass, i think it is a little old to be smc compound like the late model equipment.
