I'm trying to find out what type of paint to use on
my family farmall F20. I was told it was painted
black from the factory during the depression.

I don't know the color except that I believe that I have seen them in charcoal gray, you may do better on the Farmall forum. As to type of paint, just read down through the old threads here. There are many discussions about what to use or not use and plenty of reasons. I will offer my standard advice, which is don't put good paint over a five hour prep job and don't put cheap paint over a fifty hour prep job.

No it was grey, there were 2 shades, some confusion as to when each shade was applied. Your black is likely a dark grey, the other was "battleship" grey.
