Do I put hardener in the primer too or just the paint? What mixture do I use of paint, hardener and reducer? What kind of hardener do I use? [Reply]   [No Email]

They don't call it hardener but they do have some that they sell. It's made by Val Spar. I believe it comes in 16 oz. cans and goes into one gallon. I've used it and it works well. Something tells me that not only does the can not have that info but neither does the store you are buying it from. Seriously now , don't we require more than that for our money?? Any store selling this kind of paint should not only have the MSDS (material safety data sheet) but also the technical date sheet which will detail what you are asking for. Trust me , they CAN get those if you want. The paint company who supplies them is required by law to provide them with them. Just some more lazy counter people. [Reply]  [No Email]

The mix I used was 8:1:1. I got my hardener and reducer from Napa. The paint "thickness" (how much reducer) will take some time to get used to. I know what thickness I like and what I can spary without runs. Everybody is a little different and different conditions will call for different things. The reducer is normally temperature sensitive (ie 60-70 degerees, 70-80 degress etc). If you are going to be doing large areas, go 1 step hotter which will slow the cure rate allowing you to keep a wet edge. There is a lot to learn. Just take your time, do some practice with some cheap paint on some scrap metal, cardboard etc to see how it sprays. Good luck. [Reply]  [No Email]
