hi guys, me and dad are restoring our 2510, haven"t done a whole lot of painting and was looking for suggestions as to what kind of paint and what the code would be if you got it? is the stuff from john deere any good? i have read on here that jd paint will fade? we plan on using this tractor, but want it to look nice. also what paint gun would anyone recommend for occasional use?

any advise is very appreciated

Here is a site for the color code: http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/colorcodedisplay.cgi?manuf=John%20Deere

As much work as it is to paint a tractor I would paint it like a car with automotive paint. That way you can be assured it will last for many years. The paint will be expensive but if figure with another paint you might need to be painting it again in a couple years so it's worth it. I would recommend stripping the paint down to bare metal and use an epoxy primer. Then topcoat with PPG Concept. Be sure to use a fresh air supplied respirator. Any paint containing isocyanides can hurt you, even painting one tractor. The respirator is expensive but after you use it you can sell it on ebay for more than half the price of a new one.

For what it is worth my philosophy on it is, don't put good, as in $500.00 worth, of paint over a five hour prep job and don't put cheap paint, $50.00 worth, over a thirty hour prep job.

Greg, In my opinion Mark-Ia has it nailed ! If properly prepped and applied John Deere paint will last and look good for many years to come.......
AS LONG IT IS PROTECTED FROM THE ELEMENTS, and kept clean to protect the finish. Over the may years I have used JD paint with much success and also used the extremly high dollar product to achieve the desired finish for the customer.
