F-I-T Dupont Questions

I have been looking at many paint options for my latest project 1950 M JD.
I have received information for everything I need for PPG products. I was wondering what all I need to paint the tractor in Dupont products.

I think my local Napa Auto Store has Dupont products. I have been looking into the Dupont Ful-thane II urethane if you could shed some light on it for me I would appreciate it greatly.

At work we use tisco primer and Majic top coat with hardner. Then we scuff and go over with a urethane clear. This method does keep the tractors nice and shiny but the cheap paint still turns different shades underneath later on.

For at home projects I am done with this cheap line of paint. Thanks for any help.

If you can get Dupont from you local auto parts you should be able to get Nason, a DuPont product, Ful-thane single stage.

I've been using it now for several years and like it. Much cheaper than DuPont Approx. 210.00 gallon for IH red. It does not fade out like cheaper paint. You will need supplied air. Same as PPG or others. Nason has good support products that you will need, and not mention an 800 number for personal support.

Read the tech sheet that the dealer should give you or you can find it on DuPonts web site. It will tell you what the topcoat is compatible with. BUT, regardless put epoxy under the topcoat on the cast and a surfacer over epoxy on the sheet metal. I don't use DuPont but I have read that DuPont is more apt to have you use a sealer at some point. The local dealer for some weird reason does not sell the DuPont epoxy, perhaps because it is more expensive than DuPont-that dealer and the PPG dealer sell mostly to smaller body shops and painters, as opposed to the bigger shops that for the most part mix their own paint. My PPG dealer sells only PPG products as far as paint goes.

I may be able to get Dupont at Oreily Auto Parts. I just remembered I have bought Nason epoxy primer there before and used it on my truck and top coated with Sherwin Williams. The Fulthane 2K urethane is in Dupont"s Nason line I think.

I would like to use the surfacer on the whole tractor if its ok. I would like to make the whole thing super slick.

My napa sells Nason. I use Nason Ful-Poxy 491-10 epoxy primer/sealer and topcoat with Nason Ful-Thane 2K Urethane Topcoat.

Regardless of which products you use be sure to get specification sheets on anything you use. It's the instructions that should be on the cans but there isn't room because of hazzard warnings.

Also besure using a 2k urethane get a air supplied respirator. The hardener will go straight through a standard paint spray respirator. Even a quart of paint can hurt you.
