Agco PO#2 Paint 101

I purchased a quart of Agcos finest today for
$86.90 + tax but I knew the price beforehand and
was sitting down. I know I will need more to paint
my D17 but wanted to practice on a few pieces
before I buy alot more. I was once told the paint
can usually has a chart on it about mixing with
reducer and hardener but this can does not have
one. Questions now- What type of paint is this? I
will be using a HVLP gun so how do you know the
proper ratio of mixing? I dont want to do this
half @ss so I am reading up and hoping you all can
guide me along. Thanks in advance everyone. Ryan

The paints made by DuPont, PPG, Martin Senour, etc have exact mixing instructions, but cost about $170 for the "cheaper" urethane versions. What you have is likely an acrylic modified version of the 1930's alkyd enamel. It could be the newer acrylic enamel but I doubt it. I don't know the mixing instructions but it is probably mixed about 8:1 paint to reducer or 4:1:1 paint:reducer:hardener. If Glennster, B maniac or some other person who knows reads this he can correct me.

If the basic usage instructions, such as type of thinner (reducer), mix ratios and recoat info are not specified on the can label, I recommend you return the product for a refund and find a better source for your paint - one that provides proper specific instructions from the manufacturer. Paints are too expensive to proceed based only on what "someone said".

$86 a quart is very high for AGCO's standard paint, I didn't realize they had a higher grade? $86 per quart would buy urethane automotive paint, and it will probably hold up much better than the AGCO paint. Unless AGCO has a better grade. I'd be interested to know, as I have several olivers and always had paint mixed.

Ryan,
I would agree with the folks who say take it back. It should of come with directions and it sounds too expensive for what you are getting to me.
