Disposable supplied air system.

Been trying to find a way to have a supplied air hood that doesn"t break the bank since I don"t paint much.
Question for the paint pros on this site.

Can you use your shop compressor for the air source?
Would a disposable hood like this one work along with the shop air compressor and what other component is needed for supplied air.
I know you can"t have the shop compressor sucking the same air as the paint space but this may be a solution for occasional painters.

This Tyvek hood can be had for around $30

I have hood that looks just like it. It works great. I have gotten a couple of tractor paint jobs out of it and now it is looking a little "nasty" from oils on my skins.

The only problem with a regular compressor is that they aren't made for it. You can get filters that would go in line to the mask, but I wouldn't go that way. I know the little motors/blowers are a little pricey ($200-$300) but it well worth it as you can run the air supply hose through cold water which makes it have cool air in your mask which is great when you are a tractor painting blitz. I love mine and wouldn't go back to the "old way".

If you look at the instructions on any air compressor it will say, the air is not to be used for human consumption. If you've ever smelled the air coming out of a compressor you wouldn't want it anyway even if it's the lesser of two evils with the paint hardeners.

i made my own supplied air system with a paint ball mask (about $12 ), a 1 " sump pump discharge hose (from lowes $10 ) and a leaf blower . the paint ball mask comes with a perforated plastic visor . i took the plastic visor out and used it as a pattern to make a clear plastic visor . i attach the 1 "hose in the discharge opening of the leaf blower to catch air but not block the opening . i made an opening in the lower area of the mask for a hose connector . the way the hose is sets in the opening of the leaf blower catches plenty of air flow with out affecting the blower . total cost about $25 because i already had leaf blowers . google paint ball masks . i can give you the brand of mask later if needed . you could connect more hoses to get farther away if needed .WARNING/ DISCLAMER use at your own risk as this has not been tested and approved by OSHA,EPA,food and drug admin,CIA,FBI or any other bunch of bureacrats

You can't use the air compressor air without MAJOR modifications. Do some searching on the rest of the internet and you will find this out very quickly. IIRC it hardens your lungs and you will die pretty quickly.

You can buy filters and stuff to turn your air compressor into your breathing air, but you are cheaper to get an air pump.

A CPAP machine would do the trick if it had a long hose for it to be outside. You don't need excessive or unregulated air pressure expanding your lungs.
