I havent bought and paint or primer for about 18 months. A little sticker shock today.
Qt epoxy primer...28.00
Qt 2k Primer surfacer..22.00
1/2 pt 2k primer hardener...14.00
1/2 pt topcoat hardener20.00
1 PT epoxy primer hardener..10.00

This is just for prepwork for rims and wheels.
Probably not quite enough.
Figures three times this for the whole tractor.
Looks like 800-1000 in materials to properly paint tractor. You spend that much on the 560 Colby? LOL.
Then my "friend" who sandblasted them neglected to call meto pick them up MONDAY, so they sat in 55% humidity for three days and I had to complete metal prep them all.
Oh Well prime tomorrow am, paint Sat am.
Here's wheel that was blasted and then polished up on the edges with 60 grit flap wheel.

What brand are those--and which line? I haven't priced any PPG Omni products in that time frame either. PPG raises its prices twice a year. I'm guessing about $5-600 for my Super M, I suppose it could hit $800. Your epoxy primer appears too high, but your 2K urethane primer surfacer appears too cheap -- except what I buy is by the gallon, which will probably do 3 tractors. Problem is this time I am out of about everything, I usually carry some things over.

2K primer was the JP202, not a urethane.
Epoxy is the JP 377. All are Shopline products, except the Silver which is the IH dealer paint and works well for rims.

I think Shopline is identical to Omni, at least some of the tech sheets are identical, notably the epoxy -- I have not looked at info for Shopline products lately, though. Sold by the "premier" dealers or something like that to make people think it is better. Not available locally.

Yeah, I had that in the cabinet. Remember guys when doing rims, that is a good place to get rid of a few half full rattle cans of odd colored paint on the inside. Really lay it on about 8 coats.

If you know someone who has a body shop, ask them to get you 5 gallons of reducer/prepsol/laquer thinner or gun cleaner. They get great deals on those products at the ABS stores.
Glenster, what do you pay for 5 gals of reducer or LT? Or do you buy 55 gals?

Your right...they are identical. My PPG paint store told me that if you sell PPG exclusively you sell shopline. If you carry other brands you sell omni...the labels are the only difference. Sometimes you can get a better product from their fleet line at a lower price...if you have a dealer anywhere close to you, you might want to check into Matrix paint. The company was started by a guy that worked at PPG for years. The formulas and stuff are very similar...but usually half the price of PPG. I've been buying their urethane primer hardener and all for $69.00. It's the same as PPG's K36 urethane primer.

Not much choice here, PPG, DuPont, and NAPA. I'm staying with PPG. The Dupont dealer does handle primers, etc of other brands, the PPG dealer doesn't, but doesn't have shopline either. Don't know what your dealer means by exclusive. Local dealer sells only PPG paint, but is an auto parts store. Yours must be strictly a paint store along with related items but no auto parts.

i buy lacquer thinner in 5 gallon cans, it is just for cleanup. for wax and grease remover i use rm 900. it is for our diamont paint line. in our uni ram gun cleaner we use naked gun products for primary and final rinse. i have to track our voc's, and material usage, and all old products go in to our waste drums for pick up by our waste hauler. off the top of my head, i think 55 gallons of waste cost about 500 dollars or so to dispose of. we are very careful about how much material gets mixed so there is minimum waste. typically my paint and material bills run about a grand a week. i 'll have to check on monday to see what our thinner cost.

I haven't done any painting lately.. But, I'm NOT At all Surprised at that... This week I had a Bolt Just One, To come out of the water pump pulley, on a Ford Focus(Vibration i Guess) it was $5 bucks.. They said some were even Higher.. Nothing is cheap these days!! Larry

Imagine all these costs and these manufactures all purchase their products from China because it's "CHEAPER", for them, then resell to us at a very inflated price!

Why do you buy at a "very inflated price"? You should shop and be sure that you are getting a competitive price, though not necessarily cheapest. Few of us will pay more than what is competitive so he who tries to sell at the "very inflated" price doesn't usually sell very much.

I just can"t justify spending that much on paint for my tractors...it just doesn"t pay...I suppose it might on a complete restoration--- Where you are going to be selling the tractor for big bucks.
