Correct Primer for bare metal

I just tore down my "B" Farmall and have sandblasted all the parts to bright metal. One painter told me to use 2K urethane and another say to use expoxy. What"s best for doing the job right?

I did some searching because I am not familiar with 2k urethane.

I found this:
Epoxy is a direct to metal primer. 2K urethanes are not. If you apply a 2K urethane directly on treated metal, it will peel off within 24hrs. Trust me I had a nightmare with a job I took over after someone else had already started. It was a waste of material and my time.

Looks like the popular opinion is two wet coats of epoxy and then 2k high build (at least on the hot rod forum I found in Google)

2K urethane is not as good as epoxy on bare metal, I have no desire to use it. However the spec sheet for the PPG version says that if it is used on bare metal, the metal must be sanded AND etch primed. That tells me not to use it on bare metal.

I use a dtm primer(direct to metal) daily in my body shop. Saves some time and money. If you use 2k/ urethane primer you should use an etch prime first. Not to familiar with epoxy thats made today, the older epoxy was strong as hell but like everything else its changed. Hope this may help.

2K urethane as a primer would be last on my list. Epoxy is always first. I consider 2K urethane to be a surfacer, not a primer. But, PPG says the same thing as you do. If you have to use it, sand and etch prime first.
