How much thinner do you need to ad to JD enamel paint per quart.I tried 8 oz,but it still seems dry.

Any oil based enamel regardless of brand you use as little thinner as you possible can and will spray. The more thinner you add breaks down the integrity of the paint and makes it dry slower. On oil based paint you don't have to worry about orange peal. It sprays with a texture and after it sets a few moments levels out. What I usually do is try to spray enamel without thinning it at all and then add some if needed. More than likely it is suggested to use naphtha for spray application. It should say on the label to use naphtha or not.

My factory Deere paint says 1 part reducer to 8-10 parts paint. 4 oz. would be the most you should use in a quart. What product are you using as reducer? That may be where the problem is. I put 12 oz in a gallon yesterday and it went on about right.

Most enamal paints are 2 parts paint to 1 part reducer unless you are using a base coat/clear coat. They are usualy a one to one mix for the paint then mix the clear with a small part of hardener. Hope this helps. good luck.

I agree with this post 1/4 to 1/2 mix of thinner to paint. Either use JD reducer or any enamel reducer, not lacquer thinner. JD paint is a synthetic enamel. It would not hurt to buy some hardner from tsc or auto paint store to mix with your paint. May make it shine a little more and stronger as far as fuel and coolant resistant on hoods.
