Sherwin Williams?

Hi All, My favorite parts supplier (where I can get credit) only
carries Sherwin-Williams paints. Has anybody gotten
good results with their acrylic enamel without hardener?
Thanks, Bob.

Bob, I have been using Sherwin Williams products for over 40 years and as you are most likely aware, paint like acrilic enamal when used without a hardner will not give the quality that a hardened product produces, that being said if preparation and application are followed to the letter it will be better than any akalyd enamel you might use. Also how the project is stored and cared for during it's life will also affect the longevity. But if it were my money I'd AT LEAST spend the extra for hardner if not step up to at least a sigle stage urethane if finances dictate not using BC/CC system.

Sherwin Williams is very competitive with PPG and DuPont. One advantage of hardener is that if you mess up you can sand and recoat the next day, or if you are careful you can sand and polish out a run. In the hands of a skilled painter, which I am not, you probably cannot tell the difference between hardened and not hardened, except for slightly more gloss. But, with hardener you really should use supplied air to protect your lungs.

i shot a lot of sherwin williams acrylic enamel in the old days. its a good value line product. easier on the budget than urethanes, and a little easier to shoot. your final coat apply wet. sherwin when catalyized had superior performance than duponts centari. centari had problems with the paint dying down (fogging) after about 6 months. you would need to wet sand and buff it, but it would eventually do it again. then dupont came out with a gloss kit additive for the centari to eliminate the die-down. back in those days we didnt have supplied air, but used a shoot suit and good respirator. times have changed.
