Curious as to how most of you paint a tractor. I've painted the wheels and wheel weights and mounted the tires. (John Deere M all the yellow)The tractor is in a lot of pieces and I can paint all the green when the weather warms up. What do you do about the nuts and bolts when you bolt it all up? if I paint the nuts and bolts ahead of time they are going to be looking real sad after I chip all the fresh paint off while bolting it together. Touch up with a small brush? repaint whole tractor after assembeled ??? Thanks for any help! Ed B in rainy wet Willamete Valley in Oregon.

I paint everything in pieces with a urethane. The finish is damaged somewhat on the bolts when I assemble it but with a little light sanding, it can be touched up with a small soft brush. They make padded sockets for this purpose but I don't have any. What I use is standard full faced sockets.

I have also found if you paint the nuts and bolts separately and then bake the paint. It will chip the paint much less. I have an old oven in my shop that I just use for this purpose.

What temp and how long? You must let it dry b4 you put in the oven? Don't want to blow up the house, wife is allready tired of this venture.

Use hardener with the paint and paint before installation. I have done this several times. After installation the bolts/nuts are easily touched up with a small brush.
