epoxy primer

CNKS, can you tell me how much expoxy primer to mix to paint the frame and cast wheels on a SMTA tractor. It says you have to wait an hour after mixing. I don't want to run short and I don't want to be too short and have to wait another hour. Thanks Ed

I don't know what you are using, but for PPG Omni MP 170 the induction period is 15 minutes. I haven't painted a SMTA, I would guess two quarts. I paint everything separately stripping the chassis of everthing that will come off and leaving the cast wheels on. I usually just buy a gallon, and use the rest for small parts and sheet metal. Using a 1.3 or 1.5 tip, epoxy goes a long way. For the topcoat, on a disassembled SMTA, chassis, small parts and sheet metal, 3 coats of urethane will be about 6 quarts, maybe more. I can't get a live link for 170, but you can follow the menu.

If you use hardener don't pour any of that paint back into your container that hasn't had hardener added to it. Follow the directions for adding thinner as this will make a quart of primer go a long way. I never fill the spray gun completely to the top as your arm will get tired. Be sure to clean the gun thoroughly. I use to let all the parts soak in lacquer thinner until I needed the gun again. I hung them on a wire so I could grasp the wire to pull the parts from the container. Hal
PS:I painted my old garden tractor last may.
