What to do with ORIGINAL, but faded paint?

We just picked up a JD 420. All original paint everywhere. Body is very straight, with almost no dents, and there is zero rust.

However, it has been sitting under the eve of a barn for the last 20yrs, and it caught every Louisiana sunset.
That it mind, the paint is pretty faded, and has developed that white, chalky look.

With the unit being in such good(original) shape, I really dont want to paint it. Still, is there anything I should do to the paint on the unit, or the body?

If the paint still seems solid, not turning to dust, you can try some Meguire's Cleaner Wax, it's a chemical cleaner instead of an abrasive like rubbing or polishing compound. It doesn't remove anything but the oxidized stuff, leaves healthy paint alone, and can really bring back a finish as long as there's still some paint left. It can be found at WallyWorld, Kragen, all the usuals

Treat it like an 1800,s Winchester rifle....don't touch it! You can rub the easy sheetmetal parts but what about the hard to get at areas in and around the engine and brakes/axles etc, etc?? Part will shine and the rest won't. If you monkey with an old original Winchester , you cut the value by a third at least. Leave it be would be my opinion. (and I'm a painter)

Try a mildly abrasive compound on some out of the way place on the sheet metal. If it is flaking, it is probably already cracked, so it may not look much better, up close, anyway. Forget the cast, it does not polish well, and you will remove paint off the peaks.
