You have found a Mongomery Wards tractor built by Custom Tractor Company. Since yours is a narrow front it would be either a model HR with a 230 Cu.in 6cyl. or a model ER with a 250 Cu.in 6cyl. I own a completely restored tractor of this type. You are welcome to contact me through my e-mail address for further info.

I would have to agree with the comments posted by
John. It sounds like you found a tractor built by the Custom manufacturing company. It would have been red in color and had "WARDS" lettered on the hood sides. Custom built tractors in the post war period and used the industrial Chrysler
motor. The tractors were sold under a few different names depending on the area or company that was selling them. Simpson jumbo,Wards,Custom,
and Lehers big boy are all tractors built by the
Custom manufacturing company. Good luck!

I think you'll find that it (WARDS) also has a fluid "torque coupler" . There was a fellow that used to do quite well in the stock tractor pulls with one.

Custom mfg. co. made a tractor like you described with a crysler flathead industrial engine it was 217 or 218 cubic inch. There was a nother company that made a tractor that was simular but I just cant think of it to save my life both of these tractors were red and both pretty rare. After you look at it post back and let us know Thanks Jonathan

Scott,
The Montgomery Ward Twin Row sold in the late 40s was the B.F. Avery Model A. Simular in size to the Farmall B. The engine a 4 cylinder flat head Hercules. Painted red and the ones I know of had a single front wheel. I have a B.F. Avery with a Hi-Lo gear box.

I don't know if Montgomery Wards sold other trators or not. Your description is simular to the Avery other than the 6 cylinder Chrysler.

Good Luck,
Kent
