Wondered if any of you folks out there have one of these tractors. I have a 539 that is very strong and works hard. I recently had some problems with the lift pump but once I got the right fluid it seems to work fine. The question is this, after I changed the fluid in the hydraulic drive part of the engine I can now hear the pump when it is lifting something. Do any of you have stories about these tractors? Is is worth keeping or should I try to get rid of it ASAP? Comments would be welcome and appreciated.
Have a blessed day.

In the late 80's I had some research plots at the Experiment Station just south of Pontotoc, MS. There were a large number of IMT tractors in the area because the importer was a firm in Guntown, MS. If memory serves me the name of the company was Robinson and Woods. There is now a firm that imports TAFEs listed as: Robinson & Grissom Tractor Co. Importers of Indian TAFE brand diesel tractors. Rte. 2, Box 36, Guntown, MS 38849 (601) 869-1028.

They may be able to help. These tractors were somewhat akin to the Masseys sold in the USA in the 60's and 70's but often differed when it came to the auxiliary systems. The hydraulics were one of the main differences that I remember on some of the models. If I remember correctly your tractor is similar in appearance to a 235 or 245 Massey of the late 70’s and has a three-cylinder engine built under license from Perkins.

IMT built tractors for Massey Ferguson for many years. When Massey moved on to other designs, IMT continued to build the same tractors under their own brand name. The hoods even have mounting holes for the MF emblems. For some reason, IMT quit selling to their US distributor after the US bombed the IMT factory during the Bosnia/Croatian conflict.

If You can't fix the problem, maybe a mail to IMT will help. Go to www.agmachine.com, choose the "Main Machinery Index", then "Tractors", You'll find the IMT website.
