Hopefully I'm in the proper section. I have an old (1974?) Ditch Witch R40 with a DA40 (digging attachment). There is a cylinder to pump full of grease to lengthen the chain bar to tighten it. Mine is froze up solid, meaning I can't pump any grease into it (a slight amount) and removing the grease fitting and pushing or pulling the bar will not move it. The grease cylinder is inside a square tube and not accessible, not very easily anyway.
1)Any ideas on how to get this boom/bar loose?
2)How tight should the chain be?
This is just for home use, I basically wanted the backhoe that is on the front of the machine (so maybe it's a *fronthoe*) I've used the digging chain a little bit for one tree stump, using it to cut the roots at different angles, then using the backhoe to finish the job. I didn't want to use it any more until I get the chain tightened.
