The dipstick on my 1988 Long 460 DTC transmission has only 1 mark on it about 1/8" above the bottom end. The
dipstick is 6 5/8 " long. If the oil falls below the mark, the Lift won't work at all. Two quarts makes it work
again. The manual says there are 7 quarts available for the external lift system. (The reverse shuttle should
add some) Should I add 7 quarts then mark the stick or is something else wrong. I just started to use the rear
lift for a blade but it won't lift it below 1200 rpm. The pressure dead headed to a gauge only reaches 750 PSI
@ 1500 rpm. I have checked the pressure relief valve and it is OK so I figure the pump has been run with little
or no oil. What's peculiar is with the oil level low by a quarter inch, the hydraulic pump stops pumping but
there is still 6" of oil left in the transmission. The FSM doesn't show any porting or a standpipe that would
prevent the pump from pumping all of the oil out before quitting. Can someone shine a light here?
