Long 610 worthwhile purchase?

I ask only because most of the posts regarding these tractors are pretty old. I have the opportunity to purchase a Long 610 2WD with Long loader for $3K. It seems everything is working except for the tach. Good rubber, new battery, probably needs a fluid change. It's bigger than I need to mow pastures but can't seem to pass it up for the price. I know parts must be sourced online, which is how i usually purchase parts anyway. Opinions, thoughts?

Long 610 is a pretty good tractor about the same as the Oliver 1365.Import Tractor and ebay can supply you with about any part you'll need. Its Fiat built in case you didn't know.
If it runs and operates good with a loader that's a good deal as the 610 and 510 Longs will usually sell pretty strong.

Well, I'm kicking myself a bit. I passed on it after checking the PTO a little closer. The engage/disengage lever was inoperable and seemed like the tractor would need split to do the clutch work, which didn't excite me. But a 64HP tractor with a loader... man, I should've done it even if just to turn a profit!

You probably did the right thing if that lever has been run in the up position then it will eventually destroy the block and crankshaft.Just a new clutch assembly will run over $500.

Just the lever being "inoperable" doesn't necessarily mean doom though. When they worked right, you had to push in before you could lift. That might be the only problem.

My 610 4x4 I have had at least 25 years. Never add oil between changes. Mostly use it as a loader tractor as the 4x4 is wonderful for that. In 25 years use I have only changed the front tires and did replace the injector pump due to new fuel taking out the seals. New starter also. Engine has not bee worked on. Made in Romania.
