Long 460 Will not start

My long 460 died on me about six months ago. I was raking flat ground and it just shut off almost instantly. I checked the fuel and I had about 2-3 gallons in there but I went ahead and put 5gal of fuel in it but couldn't get it to start so I pushed it 20 yards to where I could work on it. The next time I tried to start it, the starter would not do anything so replaced it and although the tractor turned over, it still would not start. I then replaced both fuel filters, bled the fuel system but wasn't getting fuel to the injectors so I replaced the lift pump this past weekend and I still can't get it to start. It will just turn over and over but acts as if it's not getting compression or something. Also now the new lift pump acts as if it's not getting any pressure and won't pump any fuel whenI pump the lever manually. I checked all the fittings and everything's tight as far as I can tell. Does anyone have any idea what's going on with it? Thanks in advance

Did you turn off the fuel at the tank and forget to turn it back on after installing the pump and filters? Loosen the back fuel line at the filter and that will tell you that you have fuel at the pump. You could have trash in the tank or line. Take the top off the lift pump and check the fuel strainer there too for trash. If you have fuel at the pump, get someone to pull you off with another tractor. It's alot easier than loosening and bleeding lines with the lift pump. Also do you have the fuel shut off with shut off rod control that shuts the engine off? Just some thoughts.

As Jim said make sure you're getting fuel out of the tank as its a common thing with those Fiat fuel tanks to stop up at the tank outlet have even had to drill them out.
Then just get someone to pull your tractor with another tractor with your tractor in high gear high range. It'll take awhile but it'll eventually purge the air out of the fuel system and start.

Hey Traditional Farmer. I enjoy your posts about the Fiat-built tractors. A brother has a 610. We have had Longs in our family since the late 1970s. After their winter's sleep I find on my 360 and 445 that fuel leaks at fuel connections and from the pump are numerous. I have been tightening and replacing copper washers with not much success. My dad complained about that more than any other thing on the Longs. Can you offer any suggestions that you have learned that might help? Also I believe you to be in Northern Va. Right? Thanks.

The copper washers I've found these days are poor grade and don't seal very well, fortunately I bought a large amount of them at a truck parts auction about 15 years ago that have
been very good. And I have gradually changed over to brass nipples and rubber flex lines when I've been able to as they're pretty much hassle free.I'm located in central Virginia.
