Neighbor has a 460 long that the lift quit working. Power steering and hydraulics seem to work ok. Any
suggestions on possible problems would be appreciated. It runs well and motor starts good. If unable to fix
what would be a fair price for the tractor as is? Metal is straight, faded paint.

I have a Universal 650DT and am working on the same problem. Last fall my lift just stopped working. Power steering still works, so I assumed oil was getting to pumps.

If your hydraulics is still working then u still have oil flowing to the valve bodies, that's GOOD.. Yup could be a bad oring in lift cyl... but to just stop and not even try to lift ???
This is where diagnosing gets kinda tricky... Make sure you have good oil flow to draft controle valve body.. Try cracking a few lines while running and loosening a few plugs.. This may get a bit messy, but in my case it was a air locked line that caused my problems

I am going through lift problems on my 460 as well.

What condition is your pump? Do you have a set of remotes, and if so does the motor load up when you open to activate the capped remote?

If you can get a pressure tester and have remotes, see what pressure you have there.

Have you checked filter, or tried it without filter just to be sure it is flowing?

My lift is very weak, and I replaced pump, cylinder, piston and still not able to lift bush hog.

I have the control head out on my bench now with every component removed. It looks like somebody in past has messed with the Cylinder Safety Valve, as the ball is just a little loose in the valve, I'm hoping that is my problem.

The cylinder and piston are very easy to take out and inspect with head off. My piston was basically jammed in bore and I needed a sledge and 2x4 to pound it out. It was $130 to replace both pieces.

There are 5 valves in the head that could be causing your problem, the Pilot valve, Pressure Relief Valve, and the Safety valve can both be inspected with head on. The Drain valve is on the bottom of head and may be tough to get off with head in place. The Inlet Valve has to be inspected with the head off.

Let me know if you need anymore info.

Hope you got your tractor fixed. Thanks for the reply. Neighbor that owned the tractor died. 97. Kids took tractor with them. Have not heard if they fixed it or not.
