LONG 610 Questions

Hello, Looking at a 1976 LONG 610 model. I have a few questions if anything can help me out. Tractor is 2 Wheel drive, the Filters (all of them) haven't been changed in 10 years easily. Tractor has done mostly sitting for awhile under a shed. Overall not bad condition. 2900 hours and meter appears to be working.

My question is. THe power steering at the base of the column where the steel lines from the Sump and the Pump connect is leaking heavily. The owner said he THINKS it is the line itself (one of them anyway). He said he changed out the Brass washers and the tighter he tightens it the more it leaks. Whatever that tells us? He feels the line is cracked but you can't see it very well to tell if it is the link or possibly something in the Steering column? Again when he said he tightens the lines the leak more. so maybe he broke them overtightening?

Second question. he has been using a little ether to start the tractor when needed. I don't think that is often but he knew nothing of the Thermostart mechanism on the tractor. I only know the little I have read about it. No idea on the 5 positions of the key switch either....
When the tractor starts seems to blow a little white smokes. white/grey. Only ran it for maybe 5 or 7 minutes. Still had trace white smoke coming out. Although Maybe it was from sitting.

Any thoughts or help are appreciated! Looking to purchase it but a little scared of that power steering situation. Leaks here and there i can deal with but this think LEAKS. he said all he does is fill the Sump with Used Motor oil all the time. Maybe he has found out it would be a pain to fix... not sure.

Thank you all.

I wouldn't sweat the PS pump leak.. their only 150.00 all day long..
Depending on the price, I'd jump all over it..
The hard start could be something as simple as improper starting procedure..
Whats the asking price??

Pumpguy Do you have a supplier you could list that has the metal hoses that hook to the Steering column?

The asking price is $3500.

I noticed the lower fuel filter is leaking some too but again I think it is because the filters haven't been changed in a LONG time. They all need removed, cleaned up, and new replaced. the tranny oil looked to have a green tint to it, although it wasn't milky to indicate water issues. Oil looked dark and needing changed but ok. Said didn't use any oil etc.

The 610 is very similar to the Oliver 1365.The fluid leak could be a line or the steering motor hard to really say, also the Fiat hydrastatic steering can be problematic on steering control as it'll wander quite a bit.I ended up changing my Long 460 over to manual steering with a steering set up off a 1365 Oliver. The white smoke is probably from condensation moisture build up
in the fuel lines while setting.A can of Seafoam will clear that up.The starter switch if you turn it to the left it cranks the engine, turn it half way to the right and it engages the preheat
set up,turn it all the way to the right and it cranks the engine plus keeps the preheat engaged.I have quite a few of the Fiat built tractors in Long,Oliver and AC and a few parts tractors.

Do you have a steering mechanism for sale or the lines?

Other than Import Tractor is there a source in the USA that has these parts? The PS lines and steering column if needed?

I see there are tariffs on the Import Tractor site so I wasn't sure how much extra that adds to the prices.

thank you.

I have the motor and lines off the 460 but don't know if they are exactly the same or not.I'm going to look at and probably buy a non running 610 in the next week or so and if I part it out it'll have everything you'd need.

Ok I will keep in touch with you here. I am most likely going to buy this tractor. Plan on working on the price a little here. see where that gets me. Thanks
