LONG 460 HYDRAULIC SYSTEM

After some measuring I determined that the transmission oil has probably been run low for a long time because of the missing upper oil level mark, so I decided to check out the pump. The seal(s) that direct discharge oil pressure to the bearing blocks were disintegrated allowing the pressure to separate the bearing blocks instead of forcing them inward to eliminate end clearance. I found a seal kit at IMPORT TRACTOR PARTS which the guy told me fits almost all of the pumps on the imported tractors. There are 4 O-rings in the kit 2 large and 2 smaller. None of the o-rings fit either the end covers or the bearing block seals. He mentioned something about having to cut the bearing block seals to fit but the end cover o-rings are too long. The o-ring diameters appear to be about right. There are also two sets of some kind of clear plastic rings. Does anyone have any experience with this pump and its rebuild. I hate to spend over $150 because of of a pair of o-rings. The pump is # TX11234 which is supposed to be the UTB pump but the parts book shows a Warner Motive unit that doesn't resemble my pump, but the pump is clearly a Warner Motive by the logo on the end cover. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If the oil was run low for a long time I suspect there is also some damage to the pump parts.Personally I'd just go ahead and buy a new pump you can get one off ebay as several people there
sell them.

Thanks for the reply. I have disassembled and inspected all parts and the only sign of any wear is about .001" off of the inside of the casing from the suction tapering to 0 about half way around to the discharge. It's very fine abrasion likely from running without the filter. I suspect that the oil level was run close to the only mark on the dip stick at the bottom. This would have provided enough oil to lubricate through slinging but not enough to develop any pressure. There are signs that the relief valve was shimmed up so I'm sure that the problem has been there a long time. I will call Danny shortly but I just wondered if anyone has had any success with rebuilding the pump. I have the FSM and it shows the procedure in detail which looks exactly like my pump but it doesn't mention what to do if the correct parts aren't available. Worse case I will cut an O-ring to replace the original bearing block seal which was originally made of a square section? stiff plastic?. It was green and was nothing left but little chunks of unidentifiable matter.

(quoted from post at 00:16:08 11/28/16) A and I sells a seal kit.

I couldn't find a seal kit listed at A and I and according to Danny most of the Longs came with the UTB pump except mine has 3 Warner Motive pumps, HYD, Power steering , and Front end loader. I searched all over for the Warner motive pumps and found nothing but a parts list key for a P3 pump. It looks like Warner doesn't want anything to do with their Hydraulic pumps.

In desperation I tried several O-rings cut to length but the compression force was so high that the pump wouldn't turn. I finally just reassembled it with a bead of RTV in the end block seal groves. It works like a new pump. Before it wouldn't pick up the blade below 1400 rpm and the maximum pressure was 750 psi. Now it picks up the blade in 2.5 seconds at 600 rpm and less than 1.5 seconds at 1400. It may not last very long if the RTV shears but its easy to redo.
