erickson 2548 skid loader

I have recently purchased the above skid loader. Cute little machine and it sure beats the heck out of cleaning out the horse barn with a pitch fork.

I'm having a couple of issues. The governor is broken and the alternator does not work.

The engine is an Onan NHC-MS/1148C Is there anyone who might specialize in parts for this old engine. I'm guessing that any competent mechanic could fix this, if I can find parts.

A second option would be to replace the engine. Then I would have something new, with a warranty. I checked with onanparts.com, but they have not replied to my email yet.

I'm open to any ideas.

You can take the alternator off and take it to your local parts store and they can check it for you. You can buy a new delco alternator for around 60 bucks. Do you have any one close to you that does small engine repair. They might be able to fix your gov problem.

I would guess that the Governor problem is simply an adjustment issue. The alternator is built in under the flywheel. The Onan is a good engine. Just awful pricey to repair. On that model the crankshaft is splined directly onto the input shaft of the hydro. If you intend to repower it. Do not buy a new engine until you observe how the pump is driven. I think you will decide to stick with the Onan

Hi what do you mean by the governor is broken what makes you think its broken? As for the alternator not working it could be a simple as a bad rectifier voltage regulator.
