new owner - Leyland 270

Hi, I'm a new tractor owner, recently purchased a Leyland 270, she is a little road worn, leaks a bit and has a non- standard bucket.

I need tractor education; within 6 hours of owning her I got stuck on a rock pile.
So I have already learned not to drive on rock piles while mowing an over grown pasture with a Ford 5'.

I am hoping that there are some experts here on Leyland 270's that can help me care for this machine properly. I DO have a Repair Manual and will be visiting maintenance items and basic control settings (pedal free play settings, etc.). I ordered an Operators Manual in hopes of better understanding the functions of all of the systems (example, the draft sensing doesn't seem to be functioning proper, not sure how/ if the flow control has any bearing on this).

The guy that sold me the tractor gave me a quick overview of controls, but being a stickler for details I am looking for in-depth instructions (Operator Manual is a week out on delivery).

Any experts here?

OJ - thanks for that link . . . I have actually been spending most of my time over there - great resource!

Matt - I'm learning more and more about the sweet 270 and am becoming diligent with maintenance.

I think I kind of got a crush on this thing . . . just the other day my wife asked me if I "was rubbing on the tractor" - I told her no, just going through the maintenance list and setting the free play on the control pedals.

I have a machinist friend that I am going to have make me a new clevis for the clutch as the existing one is sloppy. There are other components that will probably be refurbished.

The best way I can describe it (hope it makes sense) but it reminds me of my 'classic' 1981 Yamaha XJ650 Maxim - it's old metal; it requires meticulous attention; it challenges and then rewards your efforts and operating it is Zen-like in the aspect of you need to be paying attention 'at the very moment' of what you are doing - no day dreaming, no thinking of doing other things - just focused on the task at hand.
