LONG 3 POINT HYDRAULICS

Hi, first off I would like to thank you guys for all the help so far. I have a Long 445dt 1976 and the 3 point lift arms didnt work properlly. When I would put handle in the up position the lift would raise a couple inches at atime and it would take about a minute for it to be fully raised. I drained some of bad milky fluid out and addef some fresh and it started working good but only for about an hour then it started coming up a couple inches at a time again. So yesterday I drained the hole system cleaned metal filter and added all new fluid. Well now it doesnt work at all but the power steering works fine. Is there somewhere to bleed 3 point lift? Why does power steering work and 3 point dont when they both work off same pump ?

The power steering and hydraulics should have different pumps,on the 'passenger' side of the tractor at the front of the engine the PS pump will be the one on the back and the hydraulic pump will be the one on the front side of the engine. On most of those the PS had its own pump and oil resvoir under the hood.I'd pull the screen again and clean it throughly with some good solvent and make sure the oil is at the full mark on the rear dipstick.Any water will block the screen. If you have remotes you can open one up and that will usually purge the system of any air which could be your problem you need a bucket or something similar to catch the oil.

Did you use a new gasket on the cover of the screen? That piece has to be air tight to keep the pump from sucking air,if you don't have a new gasket clean it up really good and use something like Super Blue on it.Be sure to let it dry good before you crank the tractor again. Also do you have remote lines on the tractor? If so plug in an open hydraulic line and hold the remote lever down to purge the air out of the system when the
fluid shoots out the hydraulics will start to work.

I suggesting searching the archives of this site. I have made several posts in the past of things that I have done and learned from owning Long tractors. We have had them in our family since the late 1970s. There is an oval-shaped valve plug under the seat that I have used to bleed air from the system. Loosen slightly until a steady stream of hydraulic oil seeps from it. Also, adjusting the "responsiveness" lever, on the lower right side of the lift box if sitting on the tractor, might produce some help for you. Good Luck.

Well I finally got it working. It was the pilot valve sticking. I took it out and cleaned it up and all is well. I really like this site and thanks for all the help guys.
