Silver King won't run unless choke is on

We have a Silver King with a Continental engine and
a Marvel Shebler TSX 112 carb. We recently bought
the tractor and were told that it has always had a
temperamental carb. We rebuilt it and have been
messing with it for weeks....Any ideas on why it
won't run with the choke off?

It means your engine isn't getting enough gas and its running lean. Make sure all the jets are clean, they may need to be blown out with air. If that carburetor has a main jet adjusting screw it needs to be opened. My garden tractor and an old Toro Grass King mower have that feature on their carburetors for enriching the fuel mixture.
Check your float to make sure it's set high enough for your fuel level. Hal

Also check the flow from the tank, open the drain in bottom of carb. the flow should be steady let it run for a little bit. if its not steady take the fuel line lose at Carb make sure you have a steady flow if its good there then problem is in the carb. Next step is to check the needle and seat and float level. These carbs are EASY to rebuild. let us know if this works
