Corbitt farm tractors

Last night I read about a farm tractor that I had never heard of, a Corbitt. It was built in Henderson, North Carolina, my home state,by the Corbitt Truck Co. which closed in the1 950s. Anyone ever seen one of these? The photos look like a cross between an Oliver and a John Deere. If you are not familiar with this company, you can Google "Corbitt Trucks" and find the history of the company and photographs. Just thought I would throw that out there.

That tractor also looks a little bit like a Custom or a Wards or a Lehr Big Boy or some others made in Shelbyville, Indiana in the late '40s/early '50s.

Did you know that LONG tractors were originally built in Tarboro, North Carolina? They were red with green wheels. Started, I think, in 1948. I saw one about 1949 at a demonstration day. I was about 10 then. Climbed up on it and sat down. Wasn't too long, though, they started importing them from one o' them furrin countries.

If you ever go to the Got To Be NC festival in May there is usually one on display down close to the livestock barns. They have some of the Corbitt trucks there also. Lee

Some friends of mine own one. They bought it new and it has never been used alot. It has been a couple years since I last saw it. It is about equal to a Farmall H or Oliver 77 in size and power. It has a 4 cyl gas engine maybe a Continental ? (cant remember)
