Long 610 Front Seal

Good evening! Does anybody know if the front crank seal, comes out the front, or do you have to remove the timing case cover? Also, if you use a puller to remove the crank pulley, there are no "threads" in the end of the crank, how do you put it back on?? Thank you for any advice. This is my neighbors tractor and I am trying to help him out.............Don

If you use a puller that pulls from the outer lips of the pulley you may break the pulley. You probably should use a puller like what Bigdog made to pull a pulley on his Cub tractor. He used a bottle jack along with a split bearing separator. To reinstall the pulley heat it in an oven. You also need to check the hub surface on the pulley for a groove
caused by the old seal rubbing it. You can install a speedi sleeve to cover that surface.

Thank you, Hal. That is very good info! Unfortunately, this one is definitely a "learn as you go"!! Lucky for me, I figured out that the "pulley" had a solid center, so I didn't dare use a puller. I did notice (after cleaning the face of it) There are 4 threaded holes, I cleaned the threads on 2 of them, threaded in a couple of 2" long bolts, and "popped" the hub off the flange, exposing the Large nut on the crankshaft. Now, I can use a "puller" and remove that flange, then I will be able to remove the timing case cover, and change the front seal. I am not looking forward to removing that cover at all ! Again, thanks for your input,Hal..............Don

UPDATE...The front crankshaft seal comes off from the FRONT. I did not have to remove the "timing case cover"! The second one (like anything else), would be much easier, but I doubt that will ever happen. Hope this might help someone................Don
