Thru my years of studying factory pictures and original tractors, there are certain things that you can kind of come up with a concensus on, or in other words, determine the way that the majority of them were painted. Something that I noticed when it comes to the rear rims from studying original pictures/brochures/advertisements, it seemed that if it is an earlier model 42 with the flat topped fenders the rear rims tended to be red, but the later ones with the clam shell fenders seemed to have silver rims. Something that seems to be pretty well the same across the board is the paint scheme of the grille bars. Every other one is red starting at the top with the center vertical bar being silver. Lights should be black, front rims red along with rear wheel cast centers. Decal placement and shade of silver/white/goldish are 2 things that varied a lot!!! I have posted 2 original pictures/newspaper articles from when they were new and one picture that shows a tractor that is still in original condition. Hope this helps! [Reply]  [No Email]

A lot of them left the factor and they were not even Silver. The small company just kind of used what they could get their hands on at the time. However most that are restoring them now do use silver. As far as the red accents just do whatever you wish. I"ve seen a lot of differnt ways. here is a picture of what I cam up with. The 38"rims I am working with were red and I painted them red this time. I scraped through several coats of paint and the last layer was red. Wondering if the factory had a plan or not.
