Long 445 three point issue

Hello,

I recently bought a Long 445DT tractor.
It runs great and everything seems to work but the three point hitch.

The guy I bought it from said the previous owner thought it needed to be bled.

i tinkered with it and couldn't find a place to bleed it. The remotes have pressure and work good.
I took the hydraulic valve body (front part of the reservoir under the seat) off and I moved the piston and it was slightly stuck. It did not take alot of force to move so Im thinking that was just from not being used. after I "freed" it up I put it together and the arms slowly drift up. The speed control does nothing to it and you can push the arms down if you put your body weight on them.

I took the relief valve out and cleaned it up. That had no effect. I took out every plug on the thing and cleaned whatever was under it.

I don't think the rings on the piston are bad.

The three point lift has no effect no matter how you move it.

I just hope somebody has an idea of what is going on here.

Thank you and have a nice day,

Kody

Hello,

That would make sense where exactly is the pilot valve on these machines?

My guess would be next to the speed control or by the three point lift control.

correct me if Im wrong

Thank you for the reply

Remove hex head plug and spring from top front of valve body. Pilot valve is underneath. It has a threaded hole in the top. If stuck, remove a bolt that holds the hyd pres line to the valve body and use that as a handle to pry the valve out. Polish the cylindrical part of the valve with 600 grit paper. Don't use abraisive on the angled bottom. Clean everything and put it back. Should work.

Hello,

I had this plug out and it seemed to be working properly. i will pull it out again and triple check. I also want to check the relief valve one more time.

Do you have any other suggestions? Is there a seal where that valve seats?

Thank you,

No it looked like it was a pain to pull the cotter pin and slide the linkgage off. I didn't want to mess it up.

Do you have hyd kwik couplers at the rear of the tractor? If so, plug a 5000 PSI gauge into the lift port and check for oil flow and pressure. Should be 2000-2200 PSI at 2000 RPM.

Hello,

I will try that. I put a male end in and just bumped the remote valve and it spray some fluid out at idle.

ill try and get ahold of a set of gauges.

Thanks,

Kody

The lever on the right of the seat that controls the hydraulic valve is my guess.
When I bought mine it had a FEL that requires the lever to be held down so the pump will send fluid to the FEL controls. I hold it down with the back of my right calf & use the FEL. When I let it go, it flips back to the central position & then I can use the three point linkage

NOTE - the linkage doesn't work if that lever is held down.

I also use a backhoe off the rear linkage & use the rear remotes to activate this. To achieve that I have to hold the hydraulic valve lever UP (I hold it up with a bungee) & then use the backhoe controls. If this lever slips out of the bungee, the backhoe stops working, but the rear linkage WILL work.

So - I would carefully check the operation of your hydraulic valve, because this needs to be in the "neutral" position to allow the linkage to work: up or down & its no go.

I have a hazy recollection reading somewhere about reversing a washer on this hydraulic valve to alter the operation from single acting to double acting remotes, but since mine works OK I have never attended to it. My hydraulic valve seems to operate as a three way splitter: down for FEL, neutral for linkage & up for backhoe.

are you talking about the remote lever? The one that sends fluid to remotes?

Or am I missing a lever?

Im starting to think my relief valve is stuck open. That would cause fluid to go to the cylinder enough to float the arms up but not enough to hold weight.

Or am I thinking wrong?

Thanks,

Kody

Ok,

i went and realized what I thought was the relief valve was not. so i took the relief valve out, it was clean.

put it back in.

When messing around with the 3pt speed control I found that when I hit a certain spot it would jump the 3pt arms upwards with me standing on them. Could that valve be out of adjustment somehow?

Let me know what you think.

Yes the remote lever is the one I am on about. It sits at the right of the seat (just above the lever for the linkage) & the axle runs underneath the front of the seat to work the hydraulic valve (that sends fluid to the remotes) under the left front of the seat. If this is not returning to the neutral position then the linkage will not operate. If it [b:8aa1b9ccb9]is [/b:8aa1b9ccb9]returning to neutral, then I'd look further at the hydraulic valve & check that it too will actually adopt its rest position. Rest position will normally allow the linkage to operate.

Check if you get decent pressure out of the remotes when the valve is used, if so the relief valve should be OK.

If you are still stuck, then post again & I'll have a look to see if I can find the details of that spacer/washer that may, or may not, be fitted to the hydraulic control valve. From memory it was something to do with "power beyond" for double acting cylinders.

Hello,

ok I understand now.

The remote lever is on the same side as the 3pt control. Then the valve for the remotes are on the opposite side.

I have tried to move these while working the 3pt. It doesn't have any effect. The remotes do have decent flow. O had opened them and hit the valve and fluid sprays out.

The guy i bought it from was told it needed to be bled. I am not sure that is the case.

thanks,

Does anybody know what the plug/valve under the hydraulic head is for?

It is the plug that you have to remove the whole hydraulic assembly to pull out.

Also when I move the 3pt draft lever up/down I can see that the linkage by the flow adjusting valve is not moving alot?

Could that be the problem that the valve is stuck or somthing? The arms float all the way up and stop. you can push them down with your body weight and the more throttle you give it the more weight you need to push the arms.

please let me hear your opinions I am at a loss.

Don't know what it's for, but have a look at the following weblink & nose about a bit on their website to see if anything looks as if it's wrong/missing!

It looks like you have used up most of your options with this problem. The valve body contains a small handfull of o rings and copper sealing washers. Some of them are likely wore out, tore up, mushy, or gone. You should remove it from the tractor, gut it out completely, clean it, inspect it carefully, lap the drain valve and replace Every o ring and washer in it.

well before that I am going to test hydraulic pressure,

if ive got no pressure im going to get a pump and go from there,

The arms no longer lift. they lifted before I put the rest of the 3pt arm on.

i just had the two short lift arms under the seat.

I had the screen out and that didn't do the trick,

The linkgage for the draft control was all messed up. I took it off and can work it manually but waiting for my repair manual to get the linkgage in the correct spot,

Thanks for the help guys,
