Dependent on where you are and the common farming practices where you are there may be a well made implement made in a local shop.
Myself coming from Michigan's west coast fruit and vegetable belt, David Friday used to make a many a custom implement for varied farming needs.
Some products: His road worthy Friday orchard tractor, vineyard grape hoe, the vegetable trans-planter, and other small volume implements the big boys didn't want to mess with.
I suggest locally asking around your neighborhood's old timers.

A friend wants an antique new idea 1-row transplanter. I don't know that he wants one to use in a farming application
